A thirtysomething slacker suspects his parents of setting him up with his dream girl so he'll finally vacate their home
Tripp (Matthew McConaughey) thinks he has it made. He's a good-looking guy in his thirties with a job he loves, a care-free life, and a free place to stay with the people he cares about the most - his parents.
Unfortunately the 'rents aren't quite as enthused about having their only son around, so they hire Paula (Sarah Jessica Parker) to help. Paula employs herself by getting men to fall in love with her and encouraging them to "leave the nest". She then dumps them as nicely as possible and collects a fat cheque from parents like Tripp's, looking to buy their freedom.
Like the plot, the movie is cheesey. If you enjoy seeing McConaughey get hurt physically, it has its moments. He falls off of rock walls and over the handlebars of his bike. He even gets roughed up by a few harmless animals such as a chimpmonk. But it gets old quickly.
Parker, as always, plays the woman who has the world figured out - yet somehow manages to get her heart broken before the happy music starts playing with about 5 minutes to go. One of the least-athletic looking women in Hollywood, she still manages to clean up in paintball and a number of other activities. Her stunt double probably deserves as much credit as she does for this film.
Terry Bradshaw and Kathy Bates give decent supporting jobs as Tripp's parents. They weren't in the film as much as I had expected, however, which was disappointing.
Sex and the City fans, you are going to owe your significant other for this one. I rented Get Rich or Die Tryin (the 50 Cent movie) for my revenge, and still felt ripped off.
